Lake Ouachita Kayaking Adventure

Lake Ouachita's immense size, pristine forested shoreline, and numerous islands provide a beautiful setting for a recreation opportunity found nowhere else in Arkansas. Families, groups and individuals are invited to make connections with nature during this two-day overnight kayaking experience. During our journey the park interpreter shares information on history, geology, and wildlife while demonstrating Leave No Trace principles and promoting land stewardship. We paddle about five hours each day and tent camp on islands overnight. After the sun sets between the islands we watch the stars and discuss the beauty and wonder of dark skies and special places that provide memorable experiences, protected through Arkansas State Parks. The program in all-inclusive with the park providing meals, kayaks and equipment, thought the participant can mix and match with their own to reduce costs.

Park interpreters lead exciting kayaking trips to islands in Arkansas's largest lake creating memorable, resource-based experiences.

Demand for these trips is high and they fill almost as soon as scheduled. Repeat participation is very high, and word of mouth brings many new participants. Participants begin kayaking on their own once they realize it's easy, safe, and exciting. Incorporating Leave No Trace ethics provides a framework for proper use of wildlands and recreation spaces.
